2024 UPDATE
February 2024
Greetings,
The time has come for another trip to Congo!
Dan Maki, one of the charity directors, has planned to go to Congo for 5 weeks, February 13-March-22.
While in Congo he will review what is being done regarding the education and agricultural programs, the sewing school in Bukavu, and new opportunities for projects to be done in the next 2-5 years!
Through the donations you are giving, great things are being done in the lives of the orphans and vulnerable people in eastern Congo!
These are the current programs and projects:
While Dan is in Congo, he will be visiting a number of schools; some in the cities of Goma, Bukavu and Minova and some in villages. The areas visited will depend on the safety of travel. There is extensive rebel fighting in eastern DRC.
The current education expense needs are:
Also, Dan will be visiting a number of homes to meet with orphans and other vulnerable people to see how they are doing and what their greatest needs are. Some families, living in homes without electricity or running water, have taken in orphans to give them love and a safe home!
There will be a few days set aside to help with food distribution in the camps where people, fleeing their villages due to fear of the rebel forces and war, live without access to clean water or food resources.
There is an open door to dig another well in the Bukavu area. On our last visit we learned firsthand that up to 100 families come and draw drinking water each day from the last well Hope for Orphans-Congo funded!
The travel expenses for Dan to go to Congo for the charity work being done will reach $8,000! In the past the Maki’s have covered the expense of the trips to Congo themselves, but this time he is asking for help. The costs of airfare, visas, hotels, and transportation have all increased substantially. You may not be able to go yourself to help the orphans in Congo but you might be able to help sponsor Dan to go on this mission trip!
Thank you for being a part of this mission to help orphans and the vulnerable in Eastern Congo! We truly are Working Together - Making a Difference!
Sincerely,
The team at: Hope for Orphans-Congo
Donations can be made by cash, e-Transfer, or through Canada Helps. Please specify the area and amount that you wish to designate the donation to:
1. Orphans education
2. Vulnerable persons in Internally Displaced Camps
3. Clean Water project (well)
4. Travel expenses of Dan Maki

FOR MY CHURCH FRIENDS:
I will be visiting at least 6 of the 18 churches in the fellowship there that started after my first visit to the area in 2010. Two of the churches are constructing their first building! If you are impressed of the Lord Jesus to send them a "Love Offering" by my hands, I would be privileged to bring it to them in your stead! Please write a short note or letter of encouragement to them also.
I am reminded by the Word of the Lord that our giving to others, creates an abundance of Thanksgivings to God matching our gift! (2 Cor 9:1-15)

Through the donations you are giving, great things are being done in the lives of the orphans and vulnerable people in eastern Congo!
These are the current programs and projects:
- 150+ orphans are being helped with school fees and supplies
- 12 orphans are in university (3 in Masters Programs)
- 3 agricultural projects of planting vegetables and fruit trees are operating (for food and income sources)
- A sewing school in Bukavu is in their 2nd year. (It helps widows learn a skill they use to provide for themselves and their children.)
- A small business selling reusable pads for women. (It helps reduce hygiene issues.)
- A barbershop is opening to provide sustainable employment for 2-3 orphans that have graduated from secondary school.
While Dan is in Congo, he will be visiting a number of schools; some in the cities of Goma, Bukavu and Minova and some in villages. The areas visited will depend on the safety of travel. There is extensive rebel fighting in eastern DRC.
The current education expense needs are:
- $800 for the last of the school fees for the 2nd of the trimesters
- $1,500 remaining for the first half of the university fees
